The Canary Islands were created millions of years ago by volcanic eruptions. Tenerife is one of its main islands and is dominated by Mount Teide (Europe's tallest mountain) with vineyards in abundance particularly on its western slopes in the Valle de la Orotava which formed as the result of a large landslide 560,000 years ago. This otherwise sub-tropical zone (Tenerife is located just off of the coast of southern Morocco!) is significantly cooled by elevations up to 2,000m and south-westerly trade winds.
Bodegas Tajinaste was formed by current winemaker, Agustin G. Farráis' grandfather when he returned from Cuba in 1939. Augustin has been the chief winemaker since the late 70's.
