Domaine Merlin - Mâcon La Roche Vineuse Blanc, Maconnais, France (2020)
As belies its southern-Burgundy location, this lovely Chardonnay has a slightly tropical fruity nose which is pulled back on the palate with minerality and firm acidity.
On south to south-west limestone slopes at 250 to 350m altitude.
Direct pressing of the whole harvest and very light settling of the must. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. After 15 months of ageing in neutral old oak barrels, the wine is lightly filtered before bottling.
Domaine Olivier Merlin is owned by Corinne and Olivier Merlin, who settled in the Mâcon area in 1987. Today it extends over more than 15 hectares in the Mâconnais region and in the Moulin à Vent appellation. Sustainable viticulture (ploughing the soil and harvesting by hand) and good winemaking (slow pressing of the grapes in whole bunches, fermentation and aging in oak barrels).
