IDDA - Nerello Mascalese, Etna Rosso, Sicily (2019)
Beautiful and haunting nose with violets, black cherry and mulberry notes. The elegant palate provides real tension between ripe red fruit alongside tomato leaves and oregano with a long, long finish.
‘IDDA’, which means ‘SHE’ in the Sicilian dialect refers to Etna. IDDA is a joint venture involving two of Italy's iconic wine families, Gaja and Graci. Friends for many years, the Gaja family (Piemonte and more recently Tuscany) provide a modern aesthetic to Sicilian Graci's staunchly traditional winemaking. The result is a fabulous expression of Etna's volcanic smokiness and elegance, but with a slightly riper fruit and powerful profile. Amazing wine.
