TASTING NOTES

A classic nose/palate of gunsmoke, black pepper, violets, blueberries & black cherries. Savoury, structured and a clean persistent mineral-tinged finish. One of the Rhône’s best kept secrets, Jamet redefines what a "humble" Côtes du Rhône can be through a wine that is easy drinking, yet serious.

The "Enclave" cuvée of Côte du Rhône comes from within Côte-Rôtie appellation in Bonnivières in the Côte Brune, mainly from young vines prior to sufficiently maturing for inclusion in the top wines.   "It takes it's name from the geographical particularity of the plot, which is surrounded by vines in the Cote-Rotie appellation. Only this plot of around 1 hectare is in Cote-du-Rhone. Made from 100% Syrah grapes, it is aged for 10-12 months in oak barrels of different volumes. The enclave is ample with a lot of flexibility, which offers a very good overview of the power of this grape."-Jean Luc Jamet

Jean-Luc Jamet is one of the most iconic producers of Côte-Rôtie and Côte du Rhône. His journey began in 1991, working alongside his brother Jean-Paul at the famed family estate “Domaine Jamet”. The magnificent Domaine occupied some of the the best parts of Côte-Rôtie and Côte du Rhône – but in 2013, the brothers parted ways and split the 16 hectare estate into equal halves.

With a brand-new winery (literally separated by one wall to his brother’s) and the same marvellous vineyards at hand, Jean-Luc – the ‘phoenix’ of Côte Rôtie – started a new adventure. He now applies his craft in making wines of extreme delicacy to his own exacting taste and standards.

Jean-Luc’s delicious wine style is quite different to the plusher, fleshier Domaine Jamet expressions as he prefers to focus on earlier picked grapes, with fresher/more vibrant fruit characteristics with more precise acidity.
