Jean-Luc Jamet is one of the most iconic producers of Côte-Rôtie, the renowned appellation in the northern Rhône, and one of it’s best kept secrets.
His journey began in 1991, working alongside his brother Jean-Paul at the famed family estate “Domaine Jamet”. The magnificent domaine occupied some of the best parts of Côte-Rôtie – but in 2013, the brothers parted ways and split the 16 hectare estate into equal halves.
With a brand new winery – and infamously, a brand new wall separating his half of the vineyards from his brother’s – Jean-Luc (aka the ‘Phoenix of Côte Rôtie') started a new adventure. He now applies his craft in making wines of extreme delicacy to his own exacting taste and standards. Jean-Luc’s delicious wine style is quite different to the plusher, fleshier Domaine Jamet expressions, as he prefers to focus on earlier picked grapes, with fresher/more vibrant fruit characteristics with more precise acidity.
WINE #1 - THE "ENCLAVE" CUVEE
From the Côte Brune, but from young vines not quite yet mature for inclusion in the top wines. A classic nose/palate of gunsmoke, black pepper, violets, blueberries & black cherries. Savoury, structured and a clean persistent mineral-tinged finish.
WINE #2 - THE "VALINE"
A fresh and elegant red with blackberry, smoked bacon and animal hints, backed up by petrichor, black olives and pepper. Medium bodied, velvety texture, well balanced with refreshing acidity. Savoury, structured and a clean persistent mineral-tinged finish.
