THE NAME
A young inventor named Frederick Knapp launched his Roller Boat in 1897. A cylindrical vessel built to revolutionize water travel - it would have cut travel times to Europe significantly - it received plenty of funding and even made a couple successful launches.
Unfortunately the funding dried up before it was proven to be ocean-worthy. Today, it sits buried beneath what was then Toronto's waterfront, near St. Lawrence Market.
