Near the medieval hillside town of Cugnoli, Tiberio was founded in 2000 by Riccardo Tiberio and since 2008 is run by his daughter Cristiana (the winemaker) and son Antonio (the viticulturist).
The rolling Abruzzo hills, which slope down from the Apennines toward the Adriatic Sea are characterised by mild sea breezes and cool air currents coming in from the mountainous massif of the Majella.
Trebbiano Abruzzese is rare; much of Abruzzo’s vineyards are actually planted to Bombino Bianco, Mostosa, and Trebbiano Toscano which were until very recently routinely confused with Trebbiano Abruzzese. However, while the four share similar features they are distinct varieties. Trebbiano Abruzzese is the most noble of the four, producing wines that while delicate and light bodied have greater depth and complexity.
The Trebbiano Abruzzese is planted on mainly limestone soils. This, in combination with the cool breezes from the mountains and ocean, produces wines of minerality in which balanced acidity and structure are a hallmark.
Gambero Rosso has bestowed at least Due Bicchieri on all of their wines each vintage.
