Gutiérez de la Vega - Viña Ulises - Giró y Garnacha, Spain (2018)
With lovely strawberry jam notes and earthy herbs, this is a bright red wine balanced by fine tannins and iron minerality. A versatile wine that will pair well with almost any dish - or on its own!
Viña Ulises is a blend of Garnacha and Giró (an ancient, long-thought lost variety with a pink-is skin that provides a lot of freshness to the blend). The vines are in the Valencia region in the south-east, between 30-50 years old grown at 200 meters of altitude on calcareous soils in a valley rich in iron-soils. The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and fermented in a steel vat with 10-15 days of maceration, then aged in fine lees for 6 months and bottled without filtration.
