TASTING NOTES

The 2020 exhibits more floral, herbal and spicy characteristics than recent vintages but still with structured if supple tannins, lots of blackberry and black cherries with a lightly dusty/chalk and smokey palate.

Predominantly Mencía, there is some Bastardo (Trosseau) and Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) in the blend. The Perez family winery, Castro Ventosa (the Windy Castle), was established by the Perez family in 1752, based in the Bierzo region and has been in control by the family ever since.

Raúl Pérez is a legend of Bierzo garnering significant attention from international publications such as Decanter (who in its February 2019 issue featured an article: “Is Raúl Pérez the world’s best winemaker?”), the Wine Advocate and others. This wine represents exceptional value.

With a 5-month long maceration, some carbonic maceration, malolactic in tanks and aging in 30% oak vats (purchased from Vega Sicilia's Alión).
