Arboretum is the flagship wine crafted from the fruit of the organically farmed estate vineyards in Devon Valley, Stellenbosch. It is a Bordeaux blend comprised of the best barrels the vintage gives the winemaker. The name celebrates the botanical collection of trees that graces Botanica’s home, Protea Heights Farm.
Grown predominantly on decomposed granite, with pockets of shale and sandstone, 200m above sea level. The grapes were destemmed, crushed and fermented in open top fermentation tanks, with punch downs performed twice daily. The wine was gently pressed and racked to barrel for malolactic fermentation. It was aged for 11 months in 2nd, 3rd and 4th fill 300L French oak barrels.
Ginny Povall, a Boston native, found a new home on Protea Heights Farms. Planting her first 12 acres in 2009, Ginny now creates over 9 spectacular wines. Crafted from organically grown grapes from Botanica’s home vineyards on Protea Heights Farm, these wines are all about less intervention, less convention, and maximum deliciousness!
