TASTING NOTES

This wine has an elegant nose with intense aromas of blackberry, black cherry and a subtle spiciness. The palate is concentrated and robust, with dark berry flavours that marry with a marked minerality and structured tannins. A mouthwatering acidity carries the intense flavours onto the lingering finish.

Hand-picked into small boxes and carefully sorted with 20% of the fruit left in whole bunches. 15-day fermentation in stainless-steel with indigenous yeasts. The wine was then aged for 16 months in 228-litre French oak barrels, 30% of which were new, followed by a further 2 months ageing in stainless-steel tanks before being bottled.

The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was characterised by abundance and excellence. Despite heatwaves and the largest drought in Burgundy since 1976, 2022 emerged as a generous vintage, with excellent quality and yields far exceeding the three previous years. The growing season began with a cold winter, which delayed budburst and ensured most vineyards escaped April frosts unscathed. Optimal spring conditions followed and the vines grew quickly, with flowering taking place in mid-May. The summer was hot and dry, yet rain showers at the end of June replenished water reserves and allowed vines to thrive. Harvest began at the end of August and lasted until mid-September and the quality of the fruit harvested was excellent, with vibrant aromatics and balancing acidity.

Brothers Pablo & Vincent Chevrot both manage Domaine Chevrot, where their wine-growing history began back in 1798. The Chevrot family’s long history in Maranges played a key role in the area. They were granted AOC status in 1988. Vineyard holdings total 18.5ha and are farmed organically and employ biodynamic practices. With the help of two horses, they seek to be faithful to their terroir.
