Jérémie Huchet, winemaker and oenologist, has propelled his Chauvinière estate, of around sixty hectares, into the pantheon of great Muscadets.
His terroir, composed of Château Thébaud granite, is unique. It only represents an islet of 4%, in the heart of the vineyard: its soil composed of sand, gravel and stones remains shallow. Les Montys Le Parc (which Jérémie believes should be ‘Cru’ rated) is a single vineyard within this stretch. The vines are managed using sustainable farming methods and vinification takes place in a former monastery.
From entry-level to single-plot vintages, the entire range is flawless, detailing balanced, taut wines of great finesse. The century-old vines of Clos-des-Montys constitute one of the peaks of Muscadet, for their rich constitution, tension and great aging potential. The Château-Thébaud granite, more delicate, also has real complexity.
