TASTING NOTES

An elegant and profound wine. Intricate and complex nose of raspberries and blackberries, toast, camphor, black tea & liquorice. The palate exudes fine grained, well integrated tannins, layers of flavours and a long, silky persistent finish. A classy wine that feels half Bordeaux, half unmistakably Italian.

All of Damianos's wines show real delicacy and an elegant touch with a focus on fruit purity and transparent expression. Fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees for 12 months in a mix of new and 1-year old French barriques.

Le Cerque [meaning Oak Tree] is located in Umbria on 22 hectares of parkland. Damiano Scalici used to lead the United Nations’ global response for food emergencies created by natural disasters. Following his career, he returned to his family’s roots of winemaking and purchased a bucolic retreat in the Umbrian countryside. 

Vines were planted 20 years ago on a lovely mix of limestone and clay soils - with just the right blend of free draining and water retention qualities.  Damiano embraces sustainable agriculture practices, creating high quality products that respect the environment.
