In 1836, Emanuela Barboglio exchanged her estate's fruit trees for vines and planted the first specialized vineyards of the newly-introduced Franciacorta DOC designation. One of the founders of the Fraciacorta Consortium, establishing DOCG recognition in 1995, Emanuela is considered the ‘Mother of Fraciacorta’.
Children Giulio and Lucia now at the helm.
Warm and sunny summer days are alternated by chilly nights providing the grapes with an exceptional opportunity to develop without losing acidity. The grapes are picked into shallow boxes and sent immediately to the cellar, to be carefully graded then lightly pressed. The must is then cool-fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and partly in small oak barrels. After careful tastings in the spring, the different wines, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Pinot Noir, are blended in varying proportions to make up the various types of Franciacorta and will then re-ferment in the bottle. The stacked bottles remain at least 24 months in the rooms of our cellars before the "remuage".
