Torraccia di Presura - Lucciolaio - IGT Colli della Toscana Centrale Rosso, Italy (2013)

TASTING NOTES

Lucciolaio (firefly) is an intense ruby red colour with garnet red shadings after years of aging. A complex bouquet of ripe red fruits, essences of wood, spices, vanilla and liquorice; wide, full, soft, elegant, harmonic, well balanced and very long flavour. It retains its best features for many years, being able to be aged for a long time (18-25 years).

Torraccia di Presura is located in a beautiful part of the Chianti Classico region where vineyards alternate with olive groves and domestic and maritime pine woods, overlooking the river Ema, about 15 km south from Florence.

Since 1986, the estate has been enlarging through the years up to the current 75 hectares, of which about 35 are vineyards and 16 are olive groves. The predominant grape is Sangiovese, along with Canaiolo Nero, Colorino, Foglia Tonda, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, which in various percentages go into the production of the wines of the winery.

Also some white grapes are grown, Trebbiano, Malvasia Bianca Lunga of Chianti and Chardonnay, used to produce a white wine.

Marl-clay soils and the proximity of pine trees and various Mediterranean scrubs (such as myrtle, cistus, arbutus, laurel, juniper and mastic trees) provide aromatic scents onto the grape skins and the wines produced.
