A 55 years old vineyard planted on a north facing slope of granitic soil (not the famed schist synonymous with Port viticulture). All grapes de-stemmed and pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures for 6 weeks and aged sur lies 8 months.
Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges began their adventure in 2001 with no vineyards and no wine, but they shared a dream.
The name Wine & Soul is the product of their passion and total commitment to wine. From the start, this company’s work has focused on a tireless search for exceptional vines in the Pinhão Valley – the historic heart of great Port wines – to give them a voice.
Jorge is the 5th generation of a long line of wine producers and winery owners. In 2009 Sandra and Jorge acquired “Quinta da Manoella”, an estate with a history that dates back to 1838. The Quinta da Manoella vineyards are over a hundred years old, bordered on both sides by young vineyards that are 30 years old, some even more recent. Quinta da Manoella Vinhas Velhas was immediately recognized as one of the greatest wines of Douro.
